Polish Society of Soil Science (PSSS) was founded in 1937. The society is a member of the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS), and co-operate with European Geosciences Union (EGU). The society gathers actually ca. 450 members, organized in 14 regional divisions.

Honorary Membership is the most prestigious award made by the Society. Honorary Members of the Polish Soil Science Society: E.H. Blum (Austria), Hans-Peter Blume (Germany), Donald Gabriels (Belgium), Karl-Hendrich Hartke (Germany), Viktor Targulian (Russia), Donald Sparks (USA). 

Outstanding soil scientists awarded with the Golden Badge of the Polish Soil Science Society: Nicola Senesi (Italy), Charles E. Clapp (USA), Michael Hayes (Ireland), Roger Swift, Stephen Nortcliff (Great Britain), Stepan Poznyak (Ukarine), Sergey V. Goryachkin (Russia), Anton Zaujec (Slovakia). 

Polish Society of Soil Science, in frame of bilateral agreements, co-operates with the following Societies: German Society of Soil Science, Dokuchajev Society of Soil Science, Lithuanian Society of Soil Science, Ukraine Soil Science Society, Soil Science Society of America, Soil Science Society of Turkey. 

Bilateral agreements reflect the general expectances of international scientific community to create and tighten the co-operation in the fields of science, education and culture.  In particular, agreements are expected to stimulate the exchange of ideas between scientists involved with soil environment, thus contributing to progress and development of future research and education in soil science. Co-operation between particular Societies involve the following activities:

1. Informing on the initiatives undertaken by Societies,

2. Informing on scientific conferences, training courses and workshops, to be organized or co-organized by Societies,

3. Exchanging the publications issued by Societies,

4. Participation of representatives from each side at national soil science conventions,

5. Participation of the members of each Society in scientific events on equal rights,

6. Stimulation of organization of bilateral seminars, workshops, meetings and scientific trips, devoted to selected problems of soil science,

7. Stimulating bilateral exchange of student groups and researchers.
